What Does It Mean To Be a PCIT Member?
Assessments:
Clinic and Online
At the core of our unique care programme are regular assessments carried out throughout the year. We recognise that periodic assessments help to pick up changes in your condition earlier so that you can take preventative action as soon as possible.
Your assessment consists of up to two hours with a skilled assessor, going at a pace that suits you. We will talk to you about your condition and carry out validated assessments that measure your physical and mental well-being. We also offer a unique assessment for your partner, giving them precious time to reflect on their journey so that together you can have the best quality of life.
Assessment Report
Once complete, your assessor will write a detailed, personal report that captures everything that has been covered during your consultation. It will highlight those aspects of your condition that you have said are important to you, and will also detail the results of the clinical tests that we have performed. This will be updated during each subsequent visit.
A separate section will present our recommendations about the steps that can be taken to help manage your condition more effectively.
Group Classes and Community
As part of your PCIT membership you will have access to a wide range of group classes, all created by experts who understand Parkinson’s disease. Click below for a comprehensive list of classes on offer.
You also have access to our online community group ‘Pathway‘, which is run by our members for our members. Build friendships, join excursions and days away, attend social events and support others who live with Parkinson’s disease.
Research and Innovation
Participate in pioneering clinical trials that have the potential to improve both your own health and well-being, and those of others in the future.
Our recent studies have explored the benefits of a portable, home-based device to self-administer small electric or thermal currents to the scalp. Improvement lasting several months after treatment has finished have been observed in mobility, rigidity, slowness, dyskinesia, cognition, mood and overall quality of life. Other research is exploring the value of brief psychological interventions to help our members manage depression, anxiety and low mood.

“I feel both proud and privileged to be the Patron of this centre. It is a brilliant idea, and like many a brilliant idea it seems simple and obvious –but only in retrospect, once someone has had the thought and pushed it with determination. All kudos to Prof David Wilkinson.“
